John D. Shea practices in the areas of estate, elder and long-term care planning, business law and real estate law.
He assists individuals and owners of family businesses with business formation, business succession planning, small business purchases and sales, contracts, estate planning and wealth preservation, long-term care (Medicaid) planning, estate administration, and the preparation of wills, trusts, health care proxies and durable powers of attorney. Mr. Shea also represents sellers of residential real estate.
Admitted to practice in Massachusetts in 2004, John is a graduate of Connecticut College (Bachelor of Arts in Government, 1986), University of Massachusetts at Amherst (Master of Science in Labor Studies, 1994), Suffolk University Law School (Juris Doctor, 1999) and Western New England College School of Law (Master of Laws in Estate Planning and Elder Law, 2008).
While at Suffolk Law, John was the First-Place winner of the Suffolk Lawyers Guild Third Annual Academic Convocation national writing competition. His “Distinguished Paper” entitled, An Empirical Study of Sexual Harassment/Discrimination Claims in the Post-Gilmer Securities Industry: Do Arbitrators’ Written Awards Permit Sufficient Judicial Review to Ensure Compliance with Statutory Standards?, was published in the Suffolk University Law Review (vol. 32, no. 2).
Prior to practicing law, John worked as a Realtor on Cape Cod, a Contracts Administrator/Manager for two Boston area high technology companies, and a Legal Assistant at established Boston law firms.
John is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA), the Barnstable County Bar Association (BCBA), the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), and the Estate Planning Council of Cape Cod (EPCCC).
He is married to Maureen N. (Marro) Shea, and they have two children. The Sheas have lived on Cape Cod since 2001. Prior to that, they lived in and around Boston. John grew up in Auburn, Massachusetts just outside of Worcester. |
